Rollover of bus carrying pilgrims leaves 15 dead in Alagoas

The rollover of a bus carrying around 60 pilgrims left 15 people dead this Tuesday morning (3), in the municipality of São José da Tapera, in the hinterland of Alagoas.Rollover of bus carrying pilgrims leaves 15 dead in Alagoas

Among the 15 confirmed deaths are five men, seven women and three children. Survivors were taken to area hospitals.

The Government of the State of Alagoas confirmed, this Tuesday morning, that it mobilized a task force to provide assistance on the AL-220 highway, in the village of Caboclo, in the municipality of São José da Tapera, more than 200 kilometers from Maceió.

The governor of Alagoas, Paulo Dantas, declared three days of official mourning and canceled the agenda he would have in Belém.

The rescue operation included aircraft from the State Department of Aviation, as well as teams from Samu, the Fire Department and the Military Police.

The Civil Police opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident, and the Arapiraca Criminalistics Institute sent two teams to examine the scene.
