After being imprisoned for 14 days in the Laércio da Costa Pellegrino penitentiary, known as Bangu 1, in the Gericinó penitentiary complex, west zone of Rio, by court decision, the offender Rogério Costa de Andrade e Silva was transferred this Tuesday morning ( 12), at around 9 am, to Galeão International Airport and handed over to the Federal Penal Police, who escorted him by plane to the Federal Prison of Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
According to the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seap), the operation was supported by four vehicles from the Tactical Intervention Group (GIT) and the institution’s External Security Service Group, which escorted the offender to Galeão International Airport. , where he was handed over to the Federal Police authorities, where he boarded a PF plane bound for the maximum security federal penitentiary in Campo Grande, where he will be at the disposal of the Justice Department.
The offender Rogério de Andrade was arrested on October 29th, during Operation Last Act, carried out by the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Gaeco/MPRJ), with the support of the Security and Intelligence Coordination (CSI/MPRJ). Rogério was arrested in the house where he lives in a condominium in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio.
The arrest warrant was issued by the Court of the 1st Criminal Court of the Jury Court and served in Barra da Tijuca. Rogério was reported to court for the death of Fernando de Miranda Ignaccio, on November 10, 2020, in the parking lot of the Helimar heliport, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. Ignaccio was killed with three rifle shots, in an ambush, after arriving by helicopter from Angra dos Reis, on Rio’s Costa Verde. As he did weekly, Fernando returned from the beach house in Angra, always on Mondays and did not use security guards . The killers hid in a plot of land next to the heliport and hit Fernando Ignacio, as he was arriving at his car.
In March 2021, the MPRJ had already denounced Rogério for the same crime, but in February 2022, the criminal action against the offender was blocked in a decision, by majority vote, of the Second Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) which alleged a lack of evidence that demonstrated his involvement in the crime as a principal.
Fernando Iggnacio and Rogério de Andrade were, respectively, the son-in-law and nephew of the criminal Castor de Andrade, who died of a heart attack in 1997. With Castor’s death, the dispute over control of Jogo do Bicho and slot machines in the western zone of Rio de Janeiro left more than 50 people dead on both sides.
The judicial decision that ordered Rogério Andrade’s arrest included the reasons for the offender to be transferred to a maximum security federal prison: the offender’s high level of danger and being the head of a criminal group. The Court listed among them homicides, corruption, misdemeanors and money laundering.
