Róger Reyes is serving 300 days in prison, his memory loss persists

Lawyer Róger Reyes served 300 days in captivity in the preventive cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, a place where he is subjected to torture, as his relatives have denounced on several occasions. The opponent has presented various health problems developed during the running of the bulls.

The justice of the Nicaraguan regime sentenced Róger Reyes to ten years in prison for the alleged crime of “conspiring to undermine national integrity.” The jurist is a member of the Political Council of the Blue and White National Unity (Unab).

Reyes was also disqualified from holding public office until the completion of his sentence. The judicial process was carried out in an auditorium of “El Chipote” and was in charge of Judge Félix Salmerón Moreno, of the Fifth Criminal District of Judgment.

The lawyer Reyes was the defender of the candidate for the Presidency Félix Maradiaga, he was arrested on September 20, 2021. His relatives continue to worry about the psychological disorders that the political prisoner is suffering, such as memory loss and the deteriorated state of physical health that he has shown.

He was arrested in the vicinity of the Puma gas station on the Pista Suburbana. The Public Ministry, controlled by the Daniel Ortega dictatorship, accused Reyes, 36, of “performing acts that undermine the independence, sovereignty and self-determination of Nicaragua.”

The evidence used by the Public Ministry against the political prisoner was some videos that they recorded anticipating his arrest and others related to the electoral process in which he denounced the irregularities, but did not request sanctions against Nicaragua, affirmed the defense of Róger Reyes.

The Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners counts 190 prisoners of conscience from April 2018 to May 2022, according to an updated report of those deprived of liberty in the context of the sociopolitical crisis.
