The National Assembly of 2020 approved an agreement in which the call for elections made by the National Electoral Council (CNE) for April 27 was supported
The president of the National Assembly (AN) of 2020, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that opposition parties that have requested sanctions against the officers or the country, participate in this year’s elections.
To achieve this, he proposed to the CNE to consider applying Simón Bolivar law against these organizations for political purposes.
Rodríguez’s request emerged in the ordinary session on Tuesday, January 28, in which an agreement was approved to support the call for parliamentary and regional elections made by the governing body for April 27.

Likewise, Jorge Rodríguez stressed that the call to elections evidences the “efficiency” of the electoral power.
“I believe that this is a crucial moment for the defense of peace and the electoral results that the Venezuelan people designate in the elections. One thing is dialogue and another thing is crime. One thing is negotiation and another is to use these dialogue processes and the mechanisms granted by the Constitution, to attempt precisely against democracy, ”he said.
In November, the AN-2020 sanctioned the Organic Law Simón Bolívar. The norm includes imprisonment of up to 30 years or political disqualification by up to 60 against natural and legal, national or foreign persons, who “ask” or “support” the imposition of sanctions against “citizenship, state institutions or authorities” .
In the session of this January 28, the AN-2020 approved the agreement in support of the elections convened by the CNE. The document was presented to the Plenary by Deputy Francisco Ameliach. There was no difference to the agreement expressed by the bench from the opposition to the text.

He said that the Simón Bolívar law must be applied to both opponents who are abroad and their allies in the territory, for supporting measures such as sanctions and requesting invasions against Venezuela. “It is for the defense of democratic expression,” he said.
He referred to the document that will have to sign the postulates to recognize the results, which ordered the CNE. Rodriguez stressed about this that will allow “to stop with the scratch disk” of the “sing fraud” sector.
“In all elections since 2004 here, they have sung fraud. They did not participate. But in all they sang fraud. Whatever the result, the PSUV and the great patriotic pole will recognize the results. We accept the challenge and invitation, ”he added.
Ameliach, when presenting the agreement, said that Parliament seeks to guarantee the “correct application” of the Constitution and the Law of Political Parties, Public Meetings and Demonstrations.
He accused some sectors of the opposition of violating the law by calling electoral abstention, specifying that those who “did not participate” in the national elections “are canceled their registration in the CNE and we must ensure that that is respected.”
He commented that among the obligations of the parties are: respect their declaration of principles, which includes respect for the Constitution and laws; not maintain relationship or link with paramilitary groups; and not accept donations from any foreign institution, points that, according to the deputy – the opposition has “constantly violated.”
After the session, the Telesur media published a video in which Ameliach said that the Democratic Unity table will not be able to apply for the elections. He pointed to the organization of having asked and celebrated sanctions against the country, Action sanctioned by the aforementioned norm.
At the end of 2024 the National Assembly (AN) 2020 gave the green light to the Organic Law Simón Bolívar, an initiative that arose in response to Law HR 825, also called “Bolívar Law”, which approved the Chamber of Representatives of the United States and that for the Government Nicolás Maduro tries to bend Venezuela with more sanctions and persecution.
Article 9 establishes that people who have promoted, invoked, favored or participated in the adoption or execution of measures against the population, public authorities or authorities by other states may not be applied for charges of popular election. Nor can those who have obtained profit or benefit in the execution of sanctions or who act, invoke or support armed actions that affect sovereignty.
The law is also a warning against the media. Article 21 establishes that radio and television service providers who disseminate advertising, propaganda or messages promoting the imposition of sanctions will be fined with the revocation of the concession and an amount in bolivars equivalent to between 100,000 and one million times the Greater value exchange rate published by the Central Bank of Venezuela.
