The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, described this Tuesday as an event of “transcendental importance” the promulgation of the Law of the Command for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation, after holding a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, at the Miraflores Palace.
The norm, sanctioned by Parliament, establishes the organization and functions of the comprehensive defense bodies, linking the people with the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb).
Bolivarian military doctrine and Chávez’s legacy
Rodríguez recalled that the new military doctrine was a dream of Commander Hugo Chávez, who from the beginning of the Bolivarian Revolution promoted a model different from that of the Fourth Republic, where the military was “divorced from the people.”
“The profound development of this new doctrine has been in charge of you, president, in your capacity as commander in chief of the Fanb,” said Rodríguez.
The parliamentarian pointed out that the law, made up of 22 articles, is clear and concrete, and will allow citizens to assume it as an instrument for the comprehensive defense of the territory.
Parliamentary sanction and external attacks
The National Assembly This Tuesday the Law of the Command for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation was sanctionedbased on article 326 of the Constitution, which establishes the co-responsibility between State and society in the defense of the country.
Rodríguez framed the promulgation in a context of “imperial aggression” against Venezuela, highlighting that the initiative of the Executive, together with the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, seeks to guarantee sovereignty and prepare the country against external threats.
The formal delivery of the law to President Maduro was attended by deputies from the Defense Commission, Internal Policy and the board of directors of the AN, reaffirming the institutional and strategic nature of the measure.
