Through a video message, Matilde Rodríguez Larreta recalled that this Friday, May 20, marks the 46th anniversary of the death of legislators Zelmar Michelini and Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz and exiled citizens William Whitelaw and Rosario Barredo.

In this sense, he reiterated the government’s commitment to the fulfillment of human rights, and expressed that it is a day of reflection for our society.

“From the government we redouble the commitment to peace that emanates from the unrestricted compliance with human rights,” he remarked.

The widow of Gutiérrez Ruiz maintained that the Human Rights Secretariat for the Recent Past receives complaints on the subject every day and collaborates, as a result, with the Judiciary and, specifically, with the Specialized Prosecutor for Crimes of Lesa Humanity.

“We also interact with the international system, with the International Court in The Hague, with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, with UNESCO and we are part of the meeting of High Authorities on Human Rights of MERCOSUR”, he listed.

He said that the archive of the Human Rights Secretariat for the Recent Past “works on the reception, analysis, classification, systematization and digitalization of documents.” At the same time, “it continues to work on the search for the origins of people born in the de facto dictatorial period and who doubt their identity.”

Information

“From the Secretariat we especially value any type of information that helps to clarify the facts. This is a humanitarian cause, and, above all things, we have the obligation to bring peace and answers to all the families of our country”, expressed the widow of Gutiérrez Ruiz.
