President Nicolás Maduro called the nation’s public powers to a meeting scheduled for Monday at noon, in order to debate the details of the electoral process scheduled for December 15.
The head of state explained that “Venezuela on December 15 will have new elections, elections in the communal circuits, 5 thousand territories of justices of the peace, and he called for a meeting of the five constitutional powers on Monday at noon: the Legislative Branch; the Judicial Branch, essential for this great task of justice; the Electoral Power; Citizen Power; and as head of State, head of Government, the Executive Branch; plus popular power; plus military power.”
In this sense, Maduro highlighted that justices of the peace will be elected by direct and secret universal vote, marking an important step towards citizen participation in justice.
He mentioned that the law has already been “reformed, perfected and approved,” and invited citizens to participate.
Non-punitive justice
For his part, the president of the National Assembly, deputy Jorge Rodríguez, pointed out that the changes made to the Law of Special Jurisdiction of Communal Peace Justice seek to make modifications in the State so that the people “feel justice directly at home.” , in their community.”
In this sense, he highlighted the conciliatory nature of the justices of the peace, who with their actions will be able to avoid many conflicts.
He also highlighted that each community will be able to elect up to three justices of the peace per communal circuit, who will have a crucial role in promoting a “new form of justice” that will not be punitive, but neighborhood and family-based.
