Rodrigo Vidal is elected new rector of the University of Santiago

The architect Rodrigo Vidal Rojas, became the new rector of the University of Santiago de Chile (Usach) for the period 2022-2026.

This was reported by the official Twitter account of the university, which confirmed that Vidal beat civil engineer Jorge Torres in the second round. This, after both managed to overcome the first lap carried out last week.

Vidal is an architect from the former Technical University of Concepción, with a master’s degree in urban design and land use planning. In addition, he has a master’s degree in social sciences of development from the University of Geneva and a doctorate in letters from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Today, he works as a full professor at the School of Architecture.

It should be noted that this is the second electoral process in which he has participated, this after he fell by a narrow margin in the second round in 2018, before the now outgoing rector Juan Manuel Zolezzi.
