Rodrigo García Ameneiro: confluence of pianos

To make public his gratitude to those people who day by day strive for the development of the Cuban piano school, Rodrigo García Ameneiro summoned a group of musicians from different generations such as Aldo López Gavilán, Ernesto Oliva, Rochy Ameneiro and Yasek Manzano.

The concert will be offered on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 pm, and is included in the extensive program of the Jazz Plaza 2023 Festival. It will also serve to officially present the DVD confluence of pianos, Produced by the Cuban record label Bis Music.

“I am lucky to have had eleven of the most important pianists-composers on the current Cuban scene and have performed their works for four hands, for two pianos. Also accompanied by the Havana Chamber Orchestra and its director Daiana García, my group Ceda el Paso and many of the instrumentalists who have also contributed to the successful careers of these guest pianists”, he details in conversation with OnCuba.

Graduated in 2022 from the Instituto Superior de Arte, at the age of 23 Rodrigo published the album Generation (Ediciones Colibrí) where he included songs by five Cuban pianists, including Alejandro Falcón, Rolando Luna and “Cucurucho” Valdés.

“What distinguishes confluence of pianos of other materials is that it is an audiovisual made out of love and admiration for the people who have contributed to the development and diversification of piano study on the island. There are artists who are my idols, others for whom I feel deep admiration, but despite having eleven pianists, there is a long way to go”, emphasizes García Ameneiro, winner in 2021 of the Rocky Mountain Music Competition Grand Prize together with the Polish violinist Rozalia Bryla , among 108 contestants from various countries.

About working with her mother, the interpreter Rochy Ameneiro, declared: “I love working with my mother. I have had the honor of arranging and producing two albums of children’s music. It has always been an enjoyment and a challenge for me. Feeling in the background is very important and you have to know how to do it. I like to get totally involved when they count on me in those projects to arrange, produce and compose”.

A confluence of pianos a second volume will follow.

For the first days of February, the DVD will be presented at the Martí Theater and at the Sauto de Matanzas, respectively. Live duo spiral together with the violinist Tania Haase. With this musical project, both artists won the second prize for Chamber Music at the Medici International Music Competition in 2021 with “Sonata for violin and piano from Opus 45 in C Minor” by the composer Edvard Grieg.
