Rodolfo Hernández, candidate for the Presidency of Colombia, reiterated on Tuesday, May 31, that if he wins in the next electoral elections, his foreign policy towards Venezuela will be not to interfere in the country’s internal problems.
«You there (in Venezuela) have some problems, as we have others here, you are the ones who have to fix the ones there and we take care of the ones here. I can’t solve the problems there, nor can they solve the problems here. The best foreign policy is the domestic one. I am going to take care of improving the living conditions of Colombians », she said in an interview with the director of NTN24 and the program The nightClaudia Gurisatti.
After achieving second place in the first electoral round last Sunday, May 29, Hernández will dispute the Presidency of Colombia with the left-wing candidate Gustavo Petro on June 19.
He assured that if he reaches the House of Nariño, he will issue a decree to normalize diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Colombia.
In addition, he announced that he will execute a special plan for the city of Cúcuta, on the border with Venezuela, in order to improve production and be able to export to the country.
“We can create payment plans through the Foreign Ministry, everything is solved by talking,” he said.
Finally, Hernández added: “I am not going to worry about what they have to decide. Those are problems of the Venezuelans, I will dedicate myself to solving those here.
Rodolfo Hernández’s position represents a major change in the current position of the Colombian government. The Executive of President Iván Duque recognizes the interim government of Juan Guaidó and has led the international community in denouncing the violation of human rights by Nicolás Maduro.
