The Director of Traffic of the Municipality of Rocha, Claudio Amestoy, was dismissed by the mayor Alejo Umpierrez, after it was confirmed that he stole money from an ATM of the Republic Bank (BROU), as recorded Telenoche.
At a bank branch in Rocha, a customer forgot their debit card at the ATM. After retiring, the Director of Traffic went to use the machine and seeing that the card was still working, stole $ 5,000.
A complaint and a check of the security camera images identified Amestoy, who was immediately dismissed by Mayor Umpierrez.
The head of the intendancy told Telenoche that for the Rocha government “ethical deviations do not take place”, and argued that Amestoy’s actions “affect the credibility of the municipal official”.
“There is no room for that in our government. We said at the beginning of our administration that we were not going to have any kind of admission to ethical deviations, “he stressed.
As announced, an audit was ordered for the General Directorate of Traffic, to analyze this issue.
