“The problems that concern the Government, we resolve them in the Government institutions. We have no complicity with anyone. That is professing the President’s policy. If they said that I would be there, they lied; if you believed them, then you fell into the trap,” added the President.
“We resolve the Government’s problems within the institutions. There is absolutely nothing, nothing, that can link me to this matter, nothing, I say this categorically,” he said.
The governor received applause from those in attendance, as well as from President López Obrador and future president Claudia Sheinbaum.
The governor of Sinaloa said that this state currently registers minimum levels of insecurity in the country and that the events recorded on July 25, with the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and the murder of the rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Héctor Melesio Cuén, seek to deal a double blow to the government.
“Many of the things have that purpose, to stain me and in the process see if the president gets stained, no, we do not accept any of that,” he said.
Mexican drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada said that on the day he was “ambushed” he was going to meet with the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and with Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, an elected deputy who was murdered hours before the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel landed in the United States.
In a written statement released by his defense, Zambada confirmed that he did not surrender voluntarily to U.S. authorities, but that Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, participated in a trap to capture him.
“I went to a meeting to resolve differences between political leaders in Sinaloa. I was going to intervene in the disputes between Rubén Rocha Moya, the governor, and Héctor Melesio Cuén, who was rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. Iván Guzmán Salazar was going to be present at the meeting,” Zambada said.
”On July 25, I arrived at the ranch where the meeting was to take place, in Culiacán. The meeting was scheduled for 11:00 am. I arrived a little early. I saw several armed men dressed in military green, I thought they were people from Joaquín Guzmán and his brothers. I asked part of my security team to guard the perimeter, two of them went in with me,” said the drug trafficker.
