The ex-footballer of Universitario, Roberto Martínez, is in the eye of the storm after being involved as an intermediary in a juicy contract of S / 120 million for a sanitation work in Huamachuco (La Libertad).
According to the Cuarto Poder program, the former merengue captain is accused of paying a bribe for a drinking water treatment plant work that has only been 20% complete since January 2020 and is now completely abandoned.
The work was awarded to the Arequipa company Marquisa SAC, which, according to the thesis of the Police and Prosecutor’s Office, obtained the contract after the juicy payment to the mayor of Huamachuco, Benito Contreras Morales and in which Martínez participated as an intermediary between the company and the burgomaster.
The anti-corruption prosecutor, Roberto Lecaro, in charge of the case, revealed in the Sunday newspaper that, according to the statements of an aspiring effective collaborator, Martínez would have met with the mayor in Huamachuco on several occasions. The first of them, two months before Contreras granted the good pro to the company Marquisa SAC, which was signed on December 26, 2019.
“Roberto Martínez gave money to Benito Contreras through the intermediary of a person, in the city of Trujillo, the sum of S / 50,000″, Lecaro specified.
In addition, the prosecutor explained that, in another meeting, Martínez would have given Contreras a higher amount valued at S / 100,000.
“Benito Robert Contreras Morales, traveled to the city of Trujillo and met with Roberto Martínez Vera-Tudela, who gave him the sum of S / 100,000 inside the parking lot of the Promart establishment,” he said in the Fourth Power report.
“This project was clearly for drinking water for Humachuco because we consume water that is harmful and reaches the town. And this play is a scam”, said Moisés Ruíz, president of the Front for the Defense of the Interests of the Sánchez Carrión province, to the Sunday newspaper of América TV.
After the investigation process, they arrested the operations manager of Marquisa SAC, Eduardo Marquina Cornejo; and Benito Robert Contreras, mayor of Huamachuco, who are being investigated for the crimes of aggravated collusion, own passive bribery, incompatible negotiation and influence peddling.
They defend Roberto Martinez
Roberto Martínez’s lawyer pointed out in the Sunday that his client’s visit to Huamachuco corresponds to “a little favor out of friendship” that consisted of taking documents of the company’s economic proposal to the mayor.
“As it was a favor (Martínez) he did not charge them anything”, said the lawyer Edward Sánchez.
