Two federal police officers were hit by shrapnel today (23), in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, while trying to comply with an arrest warrant at the house of former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson, who reacted to the agents’ approach.
The arrest was determined yesterday (22) by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), after attacks by the former parliamentarian against minister Carmen Lúcia.
According to the Federal Police (PF), the two officers who were injured are doing well, and the investigation is still in progress.
In videos recorded inside his house, Jefferson shows, through the security camera, the arrival of the police at the entrance of his land and says he will “face them”. In a second video, the politician shows the PF vehicle with the windshield shot and says that there was an exchange of fire.
Outside his home, Jefferson filmed another video in which he claims he “didn’t shoot anyone to catch”. “I shot at the car and near them,” he said, adding that he would not turn himself in.
Through social media, President Jair Bolsonaro informed that he ordered the Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, to go to Rio de Janeiro, to follow the progress of what he considered a regrettable episode.
“I repudiate Mr. Roberto Jefferson’s speeches against Minister Carmen Lúcia and her armed action against PF agents, as well as the existence of investigations without any support in the Constitution and without the action of the MP”, Bolsonaro said.
On social media, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres, wrote that the ministry “is fully committed to easing this crisis, as soon as possible, and in the best possible way”.
