Robbie Coltrane, Hagrid in the Harry Potter saga, dies

British actor Robbie Coltrane, famous for his portrayal of Hagrid in the Harry Potter film saga, has died this Friday at the age of 72.

Coltrane won five Bafta awards from the British Film and Television Academy during his career, three of them consecutively, between 1994 and 1996, for his participation in the series “Cracker”. He also appeared in the James Bond films “GolenEye” (1995) and “The World is Not Enough” (1999), and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II.

“He will probably be remembered for decades as Hagrid from the Harry Potter films, a role in which he brought joy to both children and adults around the world”, for which he “received a barrage of fan letters every week” since more than twenty years ago, his representative, Belinda Wright, said in a note sent to the media.

The actor’s family conveyed in that statement their gratitude to the staff of the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Lambert (Scotland), for their “care and diplomacy.” “Personally, I will remember him as a forever loyal customer, as well as a fantastic actor, with brilliant forensic intelligence and wit. After being his agent for forty years, I will miss him,” Wright said.

British actor Stephen Fry paid tribute to Coltrane’s “depth, power and talent”. Goodbye, old friend. We will miss you terribly,” he said on Twitter. EFE
