Authorities and forestry officials participated in the meeting.
The maintenance of the road to Cuchilla Grande and the control of the dust generated by the traffic of trucks led to a more than positive meeting at the headquarters of the Municipality of Fraile Muerto.
In addition to the Mayor who owns the house, authorities linked to the Rural Roads area of the Municipality of Cerro Largo and representatives of three Forestry Companies active in the area participated: Montes del Plata, UPM, FAS, LUMIN and Monte del Rey.
“The meeting point was the Municipality of Fraile Muerto because the issue of the call had to do with the Cuchilla Grande road” commented José Eduardo Lucas.
“It is a road that this year has become one of the main exit routes for forestry production” he assured. “This year, at the end of December, around 4,000 trucks loaded with wood will leave that area” revealed the Rural Road Coordinator to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL.
“These numbers are at the end of December, so we are ending November, which means that well over 3,000 have already left.” he pointed out. “It is a path in which we had already invested, we had recharged it and with the contribution of the forestry companies themselves it had been enriched in that way. Beyond all these actions, about 15 days ago it began to show, in the first 15 kilometers from Route 7 towards the bottom, noticeable problems in some cases.” reported.
NEW ACTIONS WILL BE STARTED
“We called all the Foresters and they were all present” stood out. “In two days that the call was made, we were able to get everyone there, they committed, we carefully analyzed that case and we already took actions to start making other substantive interventions to try to reach the end of the year” Lucas announced.
“We were all focused again on the criterion of trying to maintain a path that not only allows the entry and removal of production
forestry, but also makes possible a smooth entry and exit to the neighborhood. That’s the approach.” Eduardo Lucas advanced.
“A collateral issue also arose and it has to do with the dust that the trucks raise, especially near the neighbors’ houses, and we are also going to rely a little on the studies that they –Forest Companies- They have it because it is something they suffer throughout the country. In that sense there are pilot tests in different places. “We agreed to start working on this issue as well.” he assured.
“Super happy because we were able to analyze the issue in all its aspects and we generated commitment with the people. Of course the business objective is productive, it is economic, but they are very clear that they see themselves as just another neighbor and do not want to harm the rest of the neighborhood.” he counted. “That is extremely positive.”
In the area there are a volume of forested hectares that indicate that it is an activity that is here to stay. “It is not something that we are going to have until December and then not next year” accurate. “Maybe a little less but this activity will continue therefore we must find long-term solutions and generate the necessary coexistence.”
RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMITMENT OF COMPANIES
He highlighted that the representatives of these companies, who have been summoned on more than one occasion, have always stood up and have assumed the commitment. “We are working in coordination. “It is something that has escaped us” expressed the Rural Road Coordinator of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.
“It is also true, they have said it themselves, that of all the years they have been working in Uruguay this has been the most complicated year in terms of water volumes throughout the country. “This has made the point guards, especially, give in and problems arise.” he stated. “It has become extremely expensive for them to go out due to the deterioration of the roads and they are slowed down because they have many places that they are serving and the machinery equipment is scarce” he pointed out.
“The interesting thing, the most notable thing, is the responsibility with which they assumed the situation and the action they committed to taking together with the Municipality and the Municipality in search of a solution” highlighted José Eduardo Lucas.
