The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, reported yesterday that the road modernization process in the Dominican Republic involves an investment of 11.2 billion pesos.
Ascención explained that currently 600 infrastructure works are being developed in the country, including Greater Santo Domingo and the National District.
During the celebration of the Fifth Congress of Engineering, Architecture and Surveying, he reported that only in the solution of the “bottleneck”, which exists at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway, 900 million pesos are invested.
They register 163 irregular crossings from the capital to Santiago
The official revealed that from the capital to the province of Santiago there is a record of 163 irregular crossings.
He stressed that they put a stop to this situation from the Code-Vial program, which is the Rights of Way Commission, to preserve road spaces and was launched in December 2021.
He explained that business owners on the sides of the roads open and destroy the walls to facilitate access to their businesses.
In this context, Ascención commented that these crossings cause 160 deaths a year on the roads, so he understands that this can be avoided with the execution of the Code-Vial. “Together with these returns, it is not enough to close them, we have created a Right of Way Commission, to prevent the new roads from being swept away, with constant vigilance and to avoid those illegal crossings,” she argued.
He also stressed that with the implementation of this program they will avoid risks to drivers on that well-known road in the country. Likewise, he considered that the road improvement is another element that the current Government has outlined, with the infrastructure works so that in turn there is an adequate road structure, since otherwise he understands that “there will be no development; neither tourist, nor mining, nor industrial”.
They will preserve the Plaza de la Bandera
The Minister of Public Works and Communication, Deligne Ascención, assured that they will improve vehicular circulation around the Plaza de la Bandera, while preserving that monument. The incumbent stated that when a roundabout needs a traffic light unit, it no longer has any reason to exist, explaining that the roundabout itself is a means of controlling traffic and that it flows without any other particular.
