Amid criticism of his management, the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñezannounced the capture of Ivan Quispe Palomino as a remnant of the Shining Path terrorist group, however, this statement is completely unrelated to reality. Quispe Palomino is a free man, who has served the sentence imposed by the Judiciary and is even an informant for the Dircote.
This provoked a wave of criticism from experts from the period of political violence in Peru towards the head of the Interior, as they described that Palomino’s capture has been used as part of a psychosocial plan to improve public opinion about Santiváñez’s management.
Rosa María Palacios was also no stranger to the “skate” of the Home Office. From her program Sin Guion, the lawyer highlighted that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) made a mistake.
“He said that they had captured number 2 of the Shining Path. That is, the militarized member of the militarized communist party in Peru. But, how strange, right? because the man was about to take the subway like any other person, without fearing anything, I was doing an identity check, they saw “Quispe Palomino” and said “Ah, come here.” The minister declared him number 2 in the Vraem,” he said.
“Not even minutes have passed and all the terrorism experts came out to deny the minister. The only thing he had to do was a call to the Dircote. Iván Quispe Palomino is the brother of Victor Quispe Palomino, but he is not Víctor Quispe Palomino nor does he operate in Vraem. “All the information was available in a matter of minutes,” he added.
Likewise, Palacios highlighted that the detainee has already served the sentence imposed on him. “This subject who did belong to Sendero Luminoso and was captured in 1995, served 10 years in prison and is an informant for the Dircote and is considered a traitor by his brother. He is a psychosocial. They have confused the alias to say that this one does have requirements What he does have is work, management, RUC, taxes, etc.,” he indicated.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of the Interior did not apologize and that even the prime minister supported the wrong accusation against Palomino. “The minister (of the Interior) should leave, but he will not because he is aligned with the Government,” he emphasized.
