The parks were closed last weekend due to the various outbreaks of forest fires throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro. The closure measure aimed to help contain the flames, protect the population and allow technical staff to concentrate on fighting the fires. More than 3,500 hectares of land were burned in conservation areas alone.

The Fire Department has already extinguished more than 1,442 forest fires throughout the state since the creation of the Crisis Management Office, last Thursday (12). At 8 pm this Wednesday (18), there were six active fires being fought by military firefighters.

More than 1,100 military personnel have been mobilized for this period and more than 170 park rangers are working to extinguish the fire that has reached the conservation units. Professionals from the state Civil Defense and Fire Department continue to monitor the weather and climate conditions in the state.
