The states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo will be able to extend the payment of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) due by the cities of Petrópolis (RJ) and Alegre (ES).
The decision of the National Council for Finance Policy (Confaz) is “as a result of the state of public calamity caused by the heavy rains that punished the cities”.
The two states will be able to extend, for 180 days, the ICMS payment for the months from February to April, in six installments, without penalties and interest. “In addition, it also authorized them to exempt from ICMS the acquisition of equipment carried out by companies in these cities”, says the note from Confaz, which held an extraordinary meeting this morning.
