Marcelo Gallardo On Wednesday he extended his contract with River Plate until December 2026, immersed in a crisis of results that has already begun to cause cracks among the fans and just a few days before the superclásico will be played on Sunday at the Bombonera against Boca Juniors.
The announcement was made during a press conference offered at the Millonario club headquarters by the coach and the new president Stefano di Carlowho was elected by the members last Sunday.
Gallardo’s bet
“From my security, my conviction, my desire, my desire and the energy I have, I am going to continue doubling the bet,” said Gallardo, the club’s idol as a footballer and coach.
The announcement puts an end to speculation about the future of Gallardo, the most successful coach in the history of River Plate. Under his leadership, the team has suffered four defeats at home and has won just two games in the last eight outings. In addition, he was eliminated without objection from the Libertadores and Argentina cups.
Gallardo stated that he seeks “reverse the situation”, defined the moment as a “football crisis”while ensuring that he is “happy” for the signing of the contract, which comes in the midst of the turmoil for the match against their bitterest rival, Boca Juniors, on matchday 15 (penultimate) of the Clausura tournament of the Argentine First Division.
“No one is above River. None,” declared Gallardo, two-time champion of the Copa Libertadores, a competition for which his team must add more victories before the end of the year to not be left out of the 2026 edition.
