In 2021, the average rainfall that Uruguay received was 1,102 millimeters (mm), more than 200 mm than the 892 mm that were registered in the previous year but below the 1,463 mm of 2019, according to the 2021 statistical yearbook released by the INE this Friday.
However, within that average of more than 1,100 mm from last year, great variations and differences by department are hidden. The Department of Canelones was the least fortunate with a volume of 830 mm at the Melilla stationfollowed closely by the Prado de Montevideo station (855 mm) and Mercedes (869 mm).
At the other end, Rivera was the department with the highest rainfall record in 2021 (1,433 mm)followed by Treinta y Tres (1,409 mm) and Melo (1,266 mm).

The meteorological station that had the most days with precipitation was Rocha (158), followed by Prado and Punta del Este (146) and Laguna del Sauce (144). At the other extreme, the one with the fewest rainy days was Paysandú (84), followed by Artigas (89).

The average annual temperature of the sheltered country was 12.1°C, slightly above the 11.8°C of 2020. For its part, the average maximum temperature remained unchanged at 23.2°C.
On the other hand, the city of Young She was the one who recorded the more hail episodes (5), followed by Mercedes (4), while with 3 were Salto, San José, Melo, Punta del Este and Rivera.
