Father’s Day was an anniversary that went almost unnoticed in Nicaragua. The absence of its celebration in public institutions was notorious, in the private sector as well, almost no events were displayed in commemoration of this day.
In the same way, the shops looked empty and the absence of buyers was more than evident. “We had hopes, we expected sales to improve, but that was not what happened, this afflicts us, we do not know what we are going to do, we have many bills to pay, with product distributors and with banks,” declared a trader From the capital.
For their part, the vendors of the central market of the department of Rivas assured that the sales of the mothers’ month were few and that they hoped that on Father’s Day the population would be more encouraged to look for the gift for dad. Among the most demanded items historically were offered: shirts, socks, wallets and caps, the price varies according to the styles and brands.

Economist: family in other expenses
In this sense, an economist explained that the Nicaraguan population is prioritizing other interests, rather than providing gifts on dates as special as the month of the Nicaraguan mother or father.
“We all know the unemployment rate that exists in Nicaragua and that the supplies of the basic food basket rise, the population is prioritizing their food, a person with the minimum wage adjusts to survive, and it was there that we saw the critical situation in the one that many merchants had to face, in not selling the amount of products that they used to sell for these dates, where they usually celebrate and share a gift to the Nicaraguan father or mother, “explained the specialist.
Despite the current economic crisis in the country, many owners of clothing and food establishments set themselves the goal of selling 30% of their merchandise or food, for this June 23, however, this sales quota does not was hit.
«My establishment has been operating for seven years and we have faced the ravages of the pandemic and the economic crisis in the country. The new strategy that we carry out is to make delivery and this June 23, Father’s Day, the orders that were placed were few, “commented the owner of a food store located in the Rivas market.

«I have my clients who are waiting for me on these important dates, I give them a price, on May 30 a lot of people came, but not as we expected, what people demand the most are: zinnias, orchids, carnations, crimson , the daisy, sunflowers among others, the prices range from 20,30,40,50 pesos and the floral arrangements range between 150 to 200 córdobas”, explained Cerda.
