The request is related to the tsunami caused by the eruption of the underwater volcano Hunga near the island of Tonga.
The National Risk and Emergency Management Service (sngr) recommends “for caution” the suspension of maritime and recreational activities on the coastal edge of the insular region (Galapagos) until 3:00 p.m. The same measure was arranged until 5:00 p.m. for the coast of continental Ecuador.
The Sngr pointed out that the observations of the tide gauges of Santa Cruz (Galapagos) registered the entry of “light disturbances of the sea” in the area. He also clarified that so far (14:30) there have been no damages.

The authorities continue to observe the behavior of the sea after the tsunami generated after the eruption of the underwater volcano Hunga, located near the island of Tonga, in the South Pacific.
In this sense, the mayor of Guayaquil, Cinthya Viteri, reported through her Twitter account that Varadero beach was closed from 2:00 p.m. Other beaches in the country are also observed through video surveillance.
