The Public Defender’s Office of Rio de Janeiro asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Thursday (30) for authorization to carry out reports parallel to the official examination of the bodies of the more than 120 people killed during Operation Containment, held in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday.
The request was made to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, temporary rapporteur of the process known as ADPF das Favelas, an action in which the Court has already determined measures to combat police lethality in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
The defense cited that it witnessed a lack of ambulances, the closure of health centers and stated that “lethality was privileged” during the operation.
“The statements by the governor of Rio de Janeiro [Claudio Castro]according to which the operation would have been a successstating that the only victims killed were the police officers. cause species, considered the ruling handed down by this Supreme Court, in which the goal was established to be territorial reoccupation without a lethal modus operandi. It turns out that, in addition to the fact that the scope of the operation was not this, but rather the execution of warrants, lethality was prioritized, contradicting the duty of significant reduction imposed by this Court”, maintained the defense.

Earlier, the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) also requested authorization to monitor the expertise of the bodies.
Alexandre de Moraes was chosen to make urgent decisions involving the process, given the absence of a rapporteur for the case. The action was led by former minister Luís Roberto Barroso, who retired this month.
Yesterday, Moraes determined that the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, provide clarification about the operation.
