Rio sets up special scheme for Unified National Competition

The city of Rio has set up a special traffic and transport scheme to ensure the mobility of people who will participate in the Unified National Exam (CNU) this Sunday (18). Throughout the city, 125,518 candidates will be distributed across 276 locations where the tests will be held.Rio sets up special scheme for Unified National Competition

The CNU exams will be held in two shifts. In the morning, the exam locations will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:30 a.m., with the exams starting at 9 a.m. In the afternoon, the gates will open at 1 p.m. and close one hour later, with the exams starting at 2:30 p.m.

The competition is an innovative model for selecting public servants, created by the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services. The new model consists of holding joint public competitions for filling permanent positions within the bodies and entities of the direct, autonomous and foundational federal public administration, through the simultaneous application of tests in all states and the Federal District.

The purpose of the competition is to promote equal opportunities for access to permanent public positions; standardize procedures for administering tests; improve methods for selecting civil servants, in order to prioritize the qualifications necessary for performing activities inherent to the sector; and ensure the principle of impartiality in the selection of candidates in all phases and stages of the competition.

Candidates should arrive early to avoid setbacks. According to the Cesgranrio Foundation, the institution responsible for organizing the contest, the main concentration points for candidates in the city will be the neighborhoods of Bonsucesso, Maracanã, Tijuca, downtown, Botafogo and Gávea.

There will be a special traffic operation for these areas, organized by the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), with the support of the Municipal Guard. Agents will be mobilized on nearby roads to direct the flow of vehicles and pedestrians, as well as to crack down on illegal parking. The traffic operation will focus on ensuring fluidity on the city’s main traffic corridors. In addition, CET technicians will be monitoring traffic conditions using cameras so that, if necessary, adjustments can be made to the traffic light schedule.

The Municipal Urban Cleaning Company (Comlurb) will provide teams to ensure the cleaning of the roads near the test locations.

To facilitate the movement of candidates, public transportation will also be reinforced. Municipal buses, BRTs and VLTs, as well as subways, trains, ferries and intercity buses, will operate on a different schedule, with extra timetables, shorter intervals and an expanded fleet, according to the concessionaires responsible for these services.

Urban buses

According to the Municipal Department of Transportation, 60% of the fleet available on weekdays will be available to the public between 3 am and noon. The scheme applies to all companies that are part of the consortiums that operate the service.

BRT

MOBI Rio, responsible for managing the BRT, informs that the four corridors of the system (Transoeste, Transcarioca, Transolímpica and Transbrasil) will have reinforcements in the fleet of articulated buses.

Subway

To ensure candidates can get to the test locations, MetrôRio has announced that all stations will open at 6:30 a.m., half an hour before the start of operations on Sundays. They will close at 11 p.m., following the normal daily operation. Line 2 will operate between Pavuna and Botafogo, and transfers between lines 1 and 2 will be available on the stretch between Central do Brasil and Botafogo stations.

Urban trains

Candidates will also be able to use SuperVia trains this Sunday. The trains will follow the Saturday schedule, with more trips and reduced average intervals: on the Japeri and Santa Cruz lines, 20 minutes, from 6 am to 8 am; on the Belford Roxo line, 30 minutes, from 6:20 am to 8 am; and, on the Saracuruna line, 30 minutes on the Saracuruna-Gramacho stretch, and 15 minutes on the Gramacho-Central do Brasil stretch, from opening until 8 am. For the return of the test, the trains will follow the regular Saturday schedule, which normally provides transportation with shorter intervals. On weekends and holidays, SuperVia reminds that the trains operate on fixed schedules and passengers can plan their trips accordingly.

VLT

To facilitate the candidates’ travel, the Light Rail Vehicles (VLT Carioca) concessionaire informs that it will operate from 5 am to 2 pm, with special intervals of 12 minutes on line 1 (Terminal Gentileza-Santos Dumont). On the other lines (2 – Praia Formosa-Praça XV; 3 – Central-Santos Dumont; and 4 – Terminal Gentileza-Praça XV), trips will occur with the intervals practiced on Sundays: from 12 to 20 minutes on lines 3 and 4 and up to one hour on line 2.

Boats

According to concessionaire CCR Barcas, the vessels will operate at one-hour intervals on the Arariboia line: from 6 am to 11 pm (Praça XV–Arariboia route) and from 5:30 am to 11:30 pm (Arariboia–Praça XV). There will be additional service teams at the stations and extra vessels to handle a possible increase in the number of passengers.

Kindness Terminal

The Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar) informs that the Gentileza Integrated Terminal (TIG) will have a Control Center dedicated to monitoring the flow of people. The station will have its own staff reinforced, transferring personnel from other stations to the TIG, including service and security agents and guards distributed throughout the terminal.

Rio Bus Station

Rio Bus Station expects demand for travel between cities in the state, especially those bound for the city, to increase by 10% due to the Unified National Competition this Sunday. According to the concessionaire that operates the terminal, bus companies will not need to open extra schedules, but they advise users to purchase tickets in advance.
