The city of Rio de Janeiro recorded, this Wednesday (11), the hottest day of winter 2024. According to the Alerta Rio System, the meteorological agency of the Rio city hall, the temperature reached 40.4°Celsius (ºC), at 2:40 pm, in Irajá, north of the city.
Previously, the record had been registered on August 23, at the meteorological station in Guaratiba, west of the capital, when thermometers reached 38.9°C.
In addition to the high temperature, the city reached a state of emergency due to low relative humidity, values below 12%, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). According to Alerta Rio, humidity reached 11.8% at 2:50 pm in Irajá, in the northern zone of Rio.
Tonight, the forecast is for clear skies, with no rain. Winds will be light to moderate. Between Thursday (12) and Friday (13), the weather will remain stable in the city due to a high pressure system. The sky will be clear to partly cloudy and there is no forecast of rain. Winds will vary between light and moderate, being more intense in the morning. Relative humidity may be between 21% and 30% in the afternoon at some point in the city these days.
On Saturday (14), from the end of the day, humid winds from the ocean will influence the weather in the city of Rio. Therefore, from the evening onwards, the cloudiness will be varied, with no forecast of rain. Temperatures will be high and winds moderate. And the relative humidity will be between 21% and 30% in the afternoon.
On Sunday (15), the weather will change, with the approach of a cold front coming from the ocean, which will cause an increase in cloudiness and there is a forecast of isolated light rain from the end of the afternoon. The winds will be moderate to strong and the temperatures will fall.
