Río Negro teachers rejected the salary offer and announced a strike for 72 hours

The teachers united in the Union of Workers for Education of Río Negro (Unter) rejected by majority the salary proposal of the provincial government and announced a strike for 72 hours from Monday, when classes are scheduled to start, union sources reported today.

Besides of Unemployment for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week the union announced other actions and claims to the government of Arabela Carreras.

After more than 10 hours of deliberations, through a Congress held this Thursday in the city of Cinco Saltos, the vote for the government proposal yielded 157 votes against and 70 in favor of acceptance.

From the Unter they informed by means of a communiqué the rejection of the government salary proposal for 2023and demanded the “urgent call for parity and declare Congress in permanent session.”

“In addition to carrying out a 72-hour strike at the beginning of the school year,” they remarked.

“It will develop regional actions on the first day of the strike and local actions on the second dayand comply with a new Congress in Bariloche, on the third day, to define the next actions to follow”, they specified.

The The offer presented by the provincial Executive extends for a period of 12 months, starting with a rise of 5.6% for February and will conclude with an impact of 86.7%.

In these estimates, the salary of a grade teacher, without seniority in January was 131,399 net pesos and will rise to 138,758 pesos, with the 5.6% proposed for February. At the end of the 86.7% guideline, in the salaries of January 2024, that teacher will receive 245,349 pesos.
