Public transportation will be free throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro on election days. According to the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RJ), the suspension of fare collection will apply to all modes of transport: municipal and intercity buses, trains, ferries, BRT and VLT services.
The measure is the result of a determination by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), regulated by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), to ensure that all voters participate in the election, regardless of their economic condition or current location.
The standard also establishes that services must be offered with a frequency compatible with that of working days. More information about the transport offered are available on the TRE website.
The TRE also clarifies that the offer of transport to voters by candidates, political parties or party federations remains prohibited.
The elections will take place on Sunday, October 6 and, if there is a second round, on Sunday, October 27.
