The Christ the Redeemer monument received, on the night of this Thursday (17), a new lighting system, more modern and economical. The new lighting, sponsored by energy company Enel, is part of a series of tributes and improvements that have been celebrating the monument’s 90th anniversary since last year.
The number of reflectors has been reduced from 280 to 142, but with an increase in luminous efficiency, which guarantees greater luminosity production and light stability. In all, the consumption of the new lighting park will be 9,900 watts, a reduction of 68% compared to the old one.
The new system will guarantee greater definition of the images projected on the image of Christ, in addition to allowing the use of new colors. Another resource used to avoid waste in energy consumption is a software that manages the times to automatically turn the lighting on and off.
The inauguration of the lighting featured a presentation by the Mariuccia Iacovino Orchestra, which played Brazilian popular music, and was attended by the sanctuary’s rector, Father Omar Raposo.
