The Jardim Primavera neighborhood, in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, was transformed into a scene of intense shooting in the early hours of this Wednesday (5). War weapons were used by about 15 criminals who were preparing to blow up the Caixa Econômica Federal branch to take the money from the ATMs. The action started around 2:30 am.
When they arrived in four cars, the men with rifles surrounded the cabin of the State Security Integration Program (Proeis), occupied by three military police officers who were responsible for security in the neighborhood. According to the State Secretariat of Military Police, the military handed the bandits a carbine and two automatic pistols. They were then released by the men without being attacked. Other police officers who were outside the cabin even exchanged shots with the criminals. The action caused panic among the residents, due to the impact caused by the rifle shots.
Afterwards, the criminals exploded the ATMs with ammonium nitrate, which is highly destructive. Despite the explosion, the bandits were unable to take the bank’s money, as the bank’s main entrance door is armored. The measure was taken by Caixa due to other explosion episodes. None of the criminals were arrested in the action and there are no reports of injuries.
The PM also informed in the statement that “Proeis Duque de Caxias is a service in which police officers are voluntarily scheduled for paid work on their days off and these agents are not assigned to the battalion of the area, the 15th battalion of Duque de Caxias”. An internal investigation procedure will be established by the General Internal Affairs of the Military Police.
