Rio: areas of instability can cause rain and high temperatures

Rio has a forecast of heat and isolated rain in the coming days

The weather on the first day of 2026 in the city of Rio de Janeiro will be influenced by areas of instability associated with heat and humidity. According to the Rio Alert System, this Thursday (1st), the capital will have partially cloudy skies with the forecast of isolated rain showers in the afternoon/evening. Since 3:50 pm on December 24, 2025, the capital of Rio de Janeiro remains in the third level of the Heat Protocol (Heat 3). This level is reached when indexes between 36 ºC and 40 ºC are recorded and are expected to remain or increase for at least three consecutive days.

For Friday (2), there is a forecast of varied cloudiness and rain showers in the afternoon and evening. Winds will remain light to moderate.

On Saturday (3), the influence of areas of instability together with the passage of a cold front in the ocean will leave the Cloudy skies with isolated rain showers forecast from the afternoon onwards. Winds will still be light to moderate.

The forecast is for light to moderate rain throughout the day on Sunday (4) and light to occasionally moderate rain anytime on Monday (5). Winds will be moderate. According to the Rio Alert System, on both days the cloud cover will be varied with a predominance of cloudy skies.

On hot days, Rio’s city hall recommends that the population drink water, wear light clothing, take cold showers, keep environments ventilated, eat light meals, use sunscreen and avoid physical exercise outdoors between 10am and 4pm.
