The former governor of Florida called on the president to “defend freedom and democracy in Latin America and do the right thing to protect the security interests of the United States by denying entry to these three thugs and their cronies.”
“These oppressive dictators and their regimes participate in activities that continue to threaten the stability of Latin America and the national security of the United States,” said Scott, who recalled that the Cuban regime continues to be one of the state sponsors of terrorism.
The senator pointed out that Ortega remains in power in Nicaragua after elections considered fraudulent and recalled that the Sandinista boss “spent most of last year jailing his political opponents.”
Likewise, he indicated that on the Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro accusations of drug trafficking promoted by the US Department of Justice itself.
“Unless the administration intends to arrest Maduro, he should not be allowed to enter the United States,” Scott said in his letter to Biden.
So far, it is unknown if Díaz-Canel, Maduro and Daniel Ortega will attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
