Richard Acuña would run for mayor of Lima in 2026

RICHARD ACUÑA

Richard Acuna could be the next face of the Alianza Para el Progreso (APP) party in the elections for the mayor of Lima in 2026.

The possibility of his candidacy has generated reactions inside and outside APP. One of these would have been the recent resignation of Francis Allison, current mayor of Magdalena, who had publicly expressed his desire to represent the party in the next municipal elections.

Allison presented his resignation last Thursday, arguing differences with the “strategy of renewal and internal strengthening” promoted by the political group.

In a statement from APP’s National Communications Directorate, it was confirmed that Allison’s departure responded to these differences, although without mentioning specific details.

For his part, Richard Acuña has not yet made official statements regarding his possible candidacy.
