What is owed is $70 million in rice and that in Chiriquí only $6.5 million has been paid, and there is still time to pay compensation to other producers.
A group of producers of rice and basic grains from Chiriquí, carried out a caravan with their tractors on Tuesday to demand that the National Government comply with the payments owed.
This caravan began in the sector of La Nobleza in Alanje and will end at the facilities of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (Mida), in the district of David.
Gabriel Araúz, spokesman for the products, explained that the payments correspond to the 2020, 2021 and 2022 agricultural cycle. He assured that this puts the production of rice and other crops at risk.
What is owed is $70 million in rice and that in Chiriquí only $6.5 million has been paid, and there is still time to pay compensation to other producers.
He warned that the Mida authorities must respond and define clear rules to continue farming safely.
