The National Supply Company (Conab) delivered on Thursday (24) 53 tons of agroecological rice for free feeding actions for the vulnerability and food insecurity population in São Cristóvão, in the Metropolitan Region of Aracaju, in Sergipe.
The grain is produced by quilombola families and family farming in the state, through the Rice Program of Peoplewhich is coordinated by Conab.
According to Conab, R $ 870 thousand were allocated to acquire the food. Rice, a long thin type 1, was delivered to Danielle Bispo’s solidarity cuisine, which distributed for free to the population of the municipality for three years. The space is an initiative of the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST).
The company also informed that this was the largest delivery of rice of people, a federal government program aimed at expanding and diversifying rice production in the country, focusing on traditional people and communities, indigenous peoples and communities, land reform settlements and family farming. At the end of last year, Conab delivered 32 tons to the Bahia Program without Hunger.

Quilombolas
Of the 53 tons delivered this Thursday, 35 tons were produced by 47 quilombola families, from the traditional resin community, located in the municipality of Brejo Grande, Sergipe.
Family farming families, linked to the Association of Small Farmers of the State of Sergipe (APAESE), located in the municipality of Monte Alegre de Sergipe, produced the other 18 tons of rice.
The company also reported that it supports the commercialization of a total of 128 tons of rice produced by APAESE and the traditional resin community. The food acquired through the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) It is intended for the care of 31 organizations that work in care for families in food and nutritional insecurity.
Solidarity Kitchen Program
In total, R $ 11 million will be invested in the Rice of People program, aimed at serving 40,000 families, in 257 municipalities and 16 states: Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Paraíba, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Tocantins, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima.
The goal, according to Conab, is to increase rice production in the 16 states raised, which is currently 8,000 tons to 50,000 tons of rice.
Currently, the Solidarity Kitchen program has 892 solidarity kitchens qualified by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Hunger Fighting (MDS), across the country. In addition to supporting the operation of the units, meals are offered to populations in social vulnerability, food insecurity, as well as the formation of employees.
