Santo Domingo. – The president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, described as “folly” the massive placement of political fences in different parts of the country, considering that it is a challenge open to the authority of the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
Of the saints he recalled that the regulations set the beginning of the pre -campaign in the first week of July of the election year, so he considered inadmissible that at this time the parties intend to flood the streets with political propaganda.
“It is fine that internal meetings and contact meetings are held, but from there to fill the country with fences it is foolishness. I never thought we could get so much, and less refuse to withdraw them even when the law prohibits it,” he said.

Called to prudence
The official legislator defended the decision of the JCE to order the withdrawal of early advertising and asked the political parties “prudence” in the management of their activities.
He assured that all, to a greater or lesser extent, have carried out actions that do not correspond to the current electoral stage.
“The Board is making use of what the law sends. I call that all the actors be prudent and respect the decision of the institution, because we cannot act as goats without law,” he said.
About the PRM and the opposition
Asked about the warning that the electoral body directed to the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), of Los Santos admitted that several leaders have shown interest in aspiring to the presidential candidacy, but clarified that they attended to the call of the Political Directorate and the President of the Republic itself.
“What we have seen in the opposition is different: they have taken to the streets as if the elections were next month. I understand that everyone should wait for their time. There will be enough space for the pre -campaign and the campaign, but now what corresponds is to look for solutions to national problems,” he said.
Recognition of the JCE
The president of the Senate estimated that the JCE could have acted more firmly from the beginning, but valued that it finally intervened what defined as an overflow of proselytizing activities.
“When you reach the point of wallpapering the country with fences, it was no longer possible to continue allowing it,” he warned.
He also referred to the declarations of citizen participation, which supported the measures of the JCE, and said that the electoral body must act within the margin that allows the law, with the responsibility and the “political waist” that the situation demands.
Party surveys and disputes
Of Los Santos, he added that at this time some political leaders publicly dispute the first place in the polls, as is the case between Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina.
“That is typical of politics, everyone is placed where they understand, but at the time you will know who is first, second, third or fourth,” he said.
He concluded insisting that the important thing at this time is to respect the legal deadlines and concentrate on the issues that affect citizens.
