Juan Reynoso signed his contract as technical director of the Peruvian team on Wednesday with a view to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. At 52, he succeeds Argentine Ricardo Gareca, who had a successful stage in gaining access for the Incas to the World Cup from Russia in 2018 after an absence of 36 years. However, he resigned after being left out of Qatar 2022 by losing the play-off against Australia on penalties.

Reynoso, former captain of the red and white team, has trained the Mexican Cruz Azul, which he made champion in 2021, as well as the Peruvian teams Melgar, Universitario and Bolognesi, which he also led to win a national title in 2015, 2009 and 2007 , respectively.
The brand new coach signed the contract with the president of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), Agustín Lozano, and the members of the board, among whom was the general director of football, Juan Carlos Oblitas, and the general secretary, Jean Marcel Robilliard.
Reynoso thanked Lozano, Oblitas, Robilliard and the FPF board for “knowing that they are betting on someone who has one or another situation against them in the country,” however, he added that they will get to know him over time and “for sure They will be certain that this is not the case.”
His objectives
The coach stated that he is interested in continuing to make a “competitive team” in the national team, but that he is “even more interested in helping to improve soccer for minors, to have a more competitive league, to try to advise on the training of teachers. Hopefully can be achieved with your support”.
The new Peruvian coach pointed out that he has been “suffering and enjoying what our football gives us for years and many times we do not realize that, working on a day-to-day basis, things are achieved.”
“I have come to collaborate and bet that there is a lot of talent in this country, but we need those tools to make a genuine product,” he stressed.
