Para athlete Rey Dimas demonstrated his strength in the final of the 72kg Parapowerlifting discipline and in his second attempt he lifted 200kg, to secure fifth position at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Diploma for Panama.
For Rey Dimas, the pride of the San Miguelito district, these were his second Paralympic Games, after his outstanding performance in Tokyo 2020, where he achieved the Paralympic diploma in his category and in Paris 2024, he repeats this award.
In his first attempt, Dimas lifted 195kg to start his round at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, in front of a good group of Panamanian fans who attended the competition in support of their compatriot.
In his second presentation he went up to 200kg in a perfect lift and in his last attempt he went for more and having the medal very close he went for 213kg but it was not valid, thus ending his round.
The gold medal went to Bonnie Bunyau of Malaysia (232kg), the silver medal to Hu Peng of China (214kg) and Donato Telesca of Italy (213kg) finished with the bronze.
Rey Dimas will now begin a new Paralympic cycle, seeking to continue to leave Panama on a high note, thinking about the next Paralympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.
