The statements of the Attorney General, Juan Carlos Villenain an exclusive interview with Peru21drawing attention to the Government’s failure to capture Vladimir Cerronreceived a response yesterday from the Ministry of the Interior (Mininter), which raised the amount of the reward to S/200,000 for anyone who provides information on the whereabouts of the owner of Free Peruwho today has been a fugitive from justice for 330 days.

The figure was updated almost eleven months after the former political partner of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, went into hiding after being sentenced, in October 2023, to three years and six months of effective prison for the ‘Aeródromo Wanka’ case. On that occasion, the Mininter included the convicted former regional governor of Junín in the Rewards Program with an amount of S/100,000. Now, the figure has doubled.
This was reported yesterday by the Ministry of the Interior, just after Villena, in statements to this newspaper, warned that the repeated criticism of the work of the Public Prosecutor’s Office from the Executive Branch – more precisely from the head of the cabinet, Gustavo Adrianzén, and the head of the Mininter, Juan José Santiváñez – would have no other objective than “to distract (citizens) so that they are not reminded, day after day, that it has been more than 300 days and they have not captured the most famous fugitive.”
“The problem is not the amount of the reward, it is the lack of leadership of the Mininter, the Government and the neoliberal model,” was Vladimir Cerrón’s response through social media. The fugitive also referred to the statements of the Attorney General and, lacking arguments, he strayed from the underlying issue. “As long as the Attorney General, Juan Carlos Villena, continues to protect Gustavo Gorriti, he has lost all morale in this battle,” he wrote.
Furthermore, referring to the pronouncement of the Board of Supreme Prosecutors against the project that gives the Police the responsibility of investigating crimes, he accused said body of being “a monarchical caste” that “recycles itself to occupy the position of the Nation’s prosecutor.” “A step backwards in the democratization of justice in Peru,” he added. The fact is that almost eleven months have passed and the National Police cannot find him.

DISTRACTION ELEMENT
Speaking to Peru21former Vice Minister of the Interior Ricardo Valdés said that the decision to double the reward for Cerrón would have the purpose of “changing the axis of the discussion” and removing other facts from the public debate, such as the audios of Minister Santiváñez with an agent of the Diviac, the deactivation of said division itself and even dispelling speculation that there would be help to the fugitive from the Government itself.
“It is simply a way of covering up the bad press, the bad publicity that the minister has and, as a consequence (also), the president of the Republic who, it cannot be forgotten, was the treasurer of Peru Libre” during the 2021 electoral campaign, he commented.
“They are trying to present the Cerrón issue as if it were the main concern that the Government has now and (show) that they are still working to find those who are wanted. The Minister of the Interior is going through a very difficult time, he is highly questioned. Even so, the Prime Minister and the President have given him their support; however, this support obviously requires some kind of more concrete message,” he added.
I knew that
Vladimir Cerrón is being investigated, along with his brother Waldemar, for the alleged crime of criminal organization in the case ‘Los Dinámicos del Centro’.
He recently requested that the criminal proceedings against him be archived under the law against organized crime approved by the Congress of the Republic. The law was promoted by his brother, who is second vice president of Parliament.
