Revolutionize attention

Revolutionize attention

Dr. Alejandro Py assumes the direction of the Melo Hospital with immediate changes in Pediatrics

This Monday marked the beginning of a new stage for the Melo hospital with the assumption of Dr. Alejandro Py as the new director. In an impromptu press conference full of clear definitions, the doctor announced a true “revolution in care”, emphasizing the humanization of the service, the dignification of the user as a center of the system and the immediate transformation in sensitive areas such as pediatrics.

“It cannot be that a person who comes to the hospital has to ask please attend to him. That, since yesterday, he already began to change,” Py said firmly. Accompanied by his management team, composed of professionals of recognized career, including Dr. Pablo Acosta, Ms. Graciela Lamarcha and with the support of the Regional Deputy Director Dr. Mauricio González, the new director outlined the first steps of a transformation that points high and is thoroughly.

The user as the center of the system

“For me, public health is carried in the bones,” said Dr. Py, referring to the deep commitment that unites him to the system. “Neither the hospital director, nor the hospital itself, not even those who work on it are the most important. The center must be the user. And towards that we go,” he said.

In that sense, he indicated that, although the transition in the direction had already begun weeks ago, it is from now on when a true institutional diagnosis will be given way. “I can’t talk today with certainty of the reality of each hospital sector. But I can say what our management is going: it is going to change paradigms, to transform the way in which attention is conceived,” he said.

A deep change in pediatric care

The first big step was already this weekend, with a total redesign of the pediatric emergency service. “Yesterday began a new team of pediatrics, with pediatricians formed. From now on, every day there will be pediatricians at the emergency door,” Py said. This service will be complemented with support polyclinics on the first floor, permanent presence in hospitalization rooms and four neonatologists actively working.

“We want children to arrive at the hospital to receive immediate attention, quality, with professionalism and warmth. No more expected meaningless, no more uncertainty for families,” he said.

Commitment to improvement also in adults

The new management team will also put the magnifying glass in the adult service. This same Monday, Dr. Py and Dr. Pablo Acosta began to meet to detect problems and advance in concrete solutions.

One of the most critical points indicated by PY was overcrowding in medical-surgical hospitalization rooms. “We cannot have six patients together in a room with a single bathroom shared by eighteen people. That is unworthy. We will change that way of intern,” he promised.

A human face management and experience

The presentation of the management team was another of the outstanding points. “They do not need a presentation,” PY said regarding their peers. Regarding Ms. Graciela Lamarcha, head vaccination chief, said that “she is an honorable person, very dear, with many titles and a special imprint that enriches the team.”

Regarding Dr. Pablo Acosta, who will have a key role in the daily operation, Py said: “I fully trust him. He will leave his mark on this management.” This extended confidence to the entire team translates into a clear will to face the challenges with solidity, professionalism and closeness.

A new territorial management model

In an announcement that surprised those present, Dr. Py confirmed the presence of Dr. Mauricio González as regional deputy director of ASSE. “This changes the paradigm. Having a regional with us working along, is like having Montevideo here. It allows us to reach the board of ASSE directly, with first -hand information, and not only for what people say. He is working with us,” he emphasized.

This decentralization of management will be a tool
