With setbacks, the process of collecting signatures for the revocation of Mayor José Luis Fábrega’s mandate has begun, since the platform set up for this purpose presented problems and several users were unable to enter.
The lawyer Roberto Ruiz, proponent of this revocation, assured that very early they went to the headquarters of the Electoral Court, in Ancón, to catch up on how the platform enabled on several cell phones would be working that would be used to collect signatures.
“There are several inconveniences that have been occurring, we arrived here early, almost before 7 in the morning to test the different methods that the Court is making available. We tested the App that is being installed with the software on the cell phones and without any major problem it passed the test; then a person registered at one of the kiosks and did not read the new cards that have the QR code and they proceeded to correct this, ”he said.
He stressed that they also had setbacks with the tribunalcontigo.com platform in which at first, as soon as you entered the web page, the mandate revocation icon did not appear, since this was within the citizen initiative statement “which meant that people could not to access”.
Ruíz explained that there was another problem with the video call phase where it was said that it is not yet enabled. “I think the court should have been more prepared for this issue and not have to be doing tests the same day it starts with the number of citizens who are interested in participating in this process,” he pointed out.
Several members of civil society attended this call for signatures, such as Paulette Thomas, who said that those who disagree with her management have the opportunity to make their voices heard by signing this petition.
For his part, Raul Ricardo Rodríguez, former candidate for Mayor of Panama for the free candidacy, also participated in this signature, assuring that this seeks to rescue Panamanian democracy.
On the part of the naturalized foreigners, there was also representation, Rafael Rodríguez, of the New Dawn Movement, assured that in the capital more than 15 thousand naturalized citizens voted, whom he invited to stamp their signature on this petition.
While the Electoral Court reported this afternoon that the technology platform tribunalcontigo.com is working well and at maximum capacity; however, they have been receiving a large volume of calls for different purposes that are overwhelming the system.
The Court highlighted that in addition to the tribunalcontigo.com platform (video calls through the User Service Center or CAU), multi-service kiosks are available. They can also go to the institution’s offices, located in the district of Panama (main headquarters in Ancón), on Vía Ricardo J. Alfaro (Plaza El Cohete de Tumba Muerto), East Panama (Pan-American Gallery, next to Plaza Las Américas de Tocumen) and Panamá Norte (in front of the Francisco Beckman school in Las Cumbres). Likewise, the applications of activists duly trained and authorized by the TE are available.
Being 12:33 noon, Ruiz reported that the barrier of the first 1000 signatures has been passed. “The process advances with setbacks,” he specified.
