About 34.2 million retirees, pensioners and aid beneficiaries of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) begin to receive on Thursday (24) the first installment of the thirteenth salary. The decree with the anticipation of the thirteenth of the INSS was signed earlier this month by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Most retirees and pensioners will receive 50% of the thirteenth in the first installment. The exception is for those who received the benefit after January and will have the amount calculated proportionally.
The Ministry of Social Security clarifies that policyholders who receive a temporary disability benefit (formerly sick pay) are also entitled to a lower portion of the thirteenth, calculated according to the duration of the benefit. By law, insured who receive care benefits, such as continued benefit (BPC) and lifetime monthly income, are not entitled to a thirteenth salary.
