The Coordinator of Retiree Associations of Uruguay (Cajuy) issued a statement this Friday in which they called a press conference at 3:00 p.m. on Monday to discuss the reduction of the Social Security Assistance Tax (IASS).
Cajuy’s text —which was accompanied by a group of legal associations, movements that bring together more than 150,000 retirees and deputies from the Colorado Party and Cabildo Abierto— expresses with “great optimism” the percentage of growth in Uruguay with which before the end of the year “a reduction of the IASS will be approved”.
“In this sense, next Monday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m., the aforementioned Cajuy, accompanied by the aforementioned legislators, will offer a press conference at the Legislative Palace, in the Conference Room of the Legislative Palace Annex,” the statement states.
“The IASS affects approximately more than 172,000 people and is an estimated only 5% of the annual budget of the BPS, so its gradual repeal is feasible in economic terms. The statement highlights that the current estimate of growth is 4.8%, according to the Minister of Economy, Azucena Arbeleche, who also said that, if growth is “verified”, the president “will keep his word” .
“For Cajuy, it is imperative to update their groups on the progress of the just claims proposed by retirees and pensioners in our country, who are affected in their old age in terms of their income and quality of life.
