Retail sales grow 0.1% in May, says IBGE

In February and March, the rates reached 1.4%, while in April, the sector grew 0.8%. The data are from the Monthly Trade Survey (PMC), from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the quarterly moving average, retail trade rose 0.7%. Year-to-date, the sector grew 1.8%.

On the other hand, there was a drop of 0.2% compared to May 2021 and 0.4% in the 12-month period.

Nominal revenue grew 0.4% from April to May, 2.8% in the quarterly moving average, 17% compared to May 2021, 16.8% in the year and 13.6% in the 12-month period .

Extended retail, which also includes construction materials and vehicles, grew by 0.2% from April to May. Vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces fell by 0.2%, while construction materials fell by 1.1%.

The extended retail segment fell by 0.7% compared to May 2021. There were increases of 1% in the year and 0.3% in the 12-month period.
