The Special Commission for the Defense of the Guiana Essequiba Territory and Territorial Sovereignty, chaired by deputy Hermann Escarrá, began its internal restructuring on Thursday.
“The restructuring aims to defend the area under claim in a more profound way,” emphasized the parliamentarian William Fariñas, quoted in a note from the Assembly National.
This Thursday a meeting of the Special Commission was held in Defense of the Essequiboin the Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa library of the Federal Legislative Palace, in order to reorganize its internal structure.
During the meeting, the subcommittee in charge of restructuring evaluated “the agenda to be addressed in the coming months, since they hope to present a preliminary report to the Board of Directors of the National Assembly,” said Fariñas.
In defense of the Essequibo
It should be remembered that the creation of this commission was instructed by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in order to continue promoting the policies that have been devised for the defense of Essequibo sovereignty and territory, in accordance with what is established in the Agreement of Geneva in 1966.
The deputy of the Opposition Parliamentary Bloc, José Gregorio Correa, who participated in the meeting, explained that the function of the subcommittee is in the process of being updated, to adapt it to the times and make it effective.
He reiterated that the Essequibo belongs to VenezuelaTherefore, the parliamentary body in charge “will be doing all the pertinent steps to definitively join the country,” he added.
