Andrés Cueto must be more careful with the personnel working at the Salcedo Substation
MIRABAL SISTERS.- The Social and Community Network of Salcedo (Resocodesa) and the Association of Parents and Mothers of Schools (Apmae) in its chapter for the entire region, made a call to the Northern Energy distributor (Edenorte), so that the multi-million dollar losses suffered by local businesses and others can be compensated as soon as possible.
Speaking on behalf of both entities, Néstor Paulino said that on Tuesday and Wednesday the municipalities of Salcedo, Villa Tapia and Tenares suffered million-dollar losses as a result of the blackout that affected more than 80 percent of the productive work in this district.
The union leader said that the general blackout in Hermanas Mirabal began at 3 a.m. last Tuesday and that power was restored yesterday at 3 p.m. next Wednesday.
He said that for this reason, dozens of merchants suffered million-dollar losses, especially the owners of small and medium-sized commercial establishments that sell groceries, placing special emphasis on grocery stores and supermarkets in the province.
He also stated that in most of the homes in the three municipalities and in the two Municipal Districts (Blanco Arriba and Tenares), food, fruits, vegetables and sausages, among others, were damaged, which makes the economic development of many of these families difficult.
“We are asking Edenorte to heed this call, and the general manager, Mr. Andrés Cueto, must understand that what we have experienced in Hermanas Mirabal has not been easy. Our merchants have suffered huge losses, million-dollar losses, and our homes alike,” said Néstor Paulino.
He also denounced that the case of the aforementioned blackout should have been foreseen since for a little over a week the people of Miralles had the slight suspicion that something strange could be happening around the energy system of the area, since there were interruptions in the service in a very constant manner as well as instability in the voltage.
He also said that the instability in the voltage that had existed previously was a constant threat, and gave as an example that in several homes in the municipality of Tenares, for example, several electrical appliances were burned, as well as in a supermarket where part of its facilities were caught on fire, which at times caused panic in this demarcation.
“We are demanding that Edenorte investigate what happened in Hermanas Mirabal. This was not a coincidence, but rather a case of negligence that must be assumed by the company and the multi-million dollar losses suffered by local businesses must be compensated. In general terms, we understand that next month, energy bills, which are very expensive, must have a very special discount,” said the social worker.
