Resistance to removing barriers: “It is not easy to change the mentality of 30,000 people”

Despite the fact that once again a police barrier killed a person, from the Command there is no written provision that obliges the elimination of this type of procedure. On the contrary, they allege that it is difficult to change the mentality of 30,000 uniformed officers. Those involved are charged with intentional homicide.

The commander of the National Police, Crio. Gilberto Fleitas reported that the barrier installed in Ciudad del Este, which ended up killing a young man, had been installed there to capture a man wanted by Argentine justice.

He revealed that one of the data that is handled is that the deceased thad a relationship of kinship with the subject sought in the neighboring country and that he also had an arrest warrant in Alto Paraná.

Consulted on the irregularity of the police barriers in general, the Crio. answered: “It is working, but it is not easy to change the mentality of 30,000 people”, in relation to the custom rooted in the police institution.

Gilberto Fleitas acknowledged that although the instruction was given to avoid this type of procedure, in reality there is no written order providing for the prohibition.

ANDhe commissioner Hugo Florentín Stiglit, sub-commissioner Manuel Ramón Villalba Gómez, officer Roberto Samaniego and non-commissioned officers Richard Seberiano, Rubén Giménez, Alder Centurión, Pedro Brítez, Jaime Ramírez, Javier Martínez, Alfredo Villalba and César González are the 11 police officers arrested and charged for intentional homicide.

Hugo Florentin of the Crime Investigation Department of Alto Paraná and Francisco Rolon of the Special Operations Group (GEO) were removed from office. The first was replaced by Commissioner Hugo Grance and the second by Commissioner Édgar Núñez.

Alex Enrique Alejandro Ortiz Estigarribia (21) died from several shots fired by police officers on Saturday night.

The companion, Gloria Yetsica Espínola Cáceres (30), was injured after being hit by projectiles and continues to interned in intensive therapy at the Regional Hospital of Ciudad del Este.
