Resignations in the Government of José Jerí: MTC and Health ministers resigned from their positions and would apply in 2026

Resignations in the Government of José Jerí: MTC and Health ministers resigned from their positions and would apply in 2026

The ministers of Transport and Communications (MTC) and Health (Minsa), Cesar Sandoval and Cesar Vasquezresigned from their positions after the vacancy against the president Dina Boluarte. His decision was communicated to the current head of state, José Jeríwho until the closing of this note has not appointed his new ministerial cabinet to carry out the corresponding activities in each sector of Peru.

Both Sandoval and Vásquez presented their resignation shortly before the deadline established by law for high authorities to leave their positions to run for the 2026 General Elections expired. In this way, the now former ministers are empowered to be candidates for the next bicameral Congress.

The first resignation occurred on the part of Sandoval, on October 9, when former president Boluarte was removed from office after the attack against the cumbia group Agua Marina. A day later, he notified Jerí of his irrevocable departure. “Nothing ties me or will ever tie me to the positions. (…). In 5 months at the head of theTCMand thanks to our president we put a stop to corruption, we unlocked investments and we inaugurated and designed works that lasted decades,” he said.

Hours later, Vásquez did so with the current president. Through a video shared on his official X account (formerly Twitter), he announced his departure from Minsa. “With the satisfaction of having served my country with loyalty, dedication and patriotism in each of the decisions we made in these 27 months of management,” he said.

César Vásquez would run with the Alliance for Progress (APP) for the bicameral Congress

For his part, Vásquez would run with the party led by the, until now, regional governor of La Libertad, César Acuña, Alliance for Progress (APP). On October 2, in statements to the press, the former Minister of Health did not rule out the possibility of being a candidate for Congress. As he declared, running for a senatorial position “is a right” that every citizen has.

“It is something that I have not yet defined. (…) I still have a week to think about it. It is an opportunity and a right that every citizen has and the ministers are not excepted from being able to participate in an electoral contest. I am going to evaluate it, I will not rule it out,” he expressed.

Along the same lines, he noted: “I am a politician, I have been a congressman, you know that I have had a participation in various political scenarios. I consider that we have spent an important time in management with results that favor citizens.”

César Sandoval will reevaluate his decision to run for Congress

Although he repeatedly denied that he will run for Congress in the next 2026 Elections, Sandoval Pozo declared to the media that he will reevaluate his decision for the following elections. However, he did not mention the political party for which he would run. However, it is necessary to highlight that, according to the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) of the JNE, Sandoval is affiliated with the Alliance for Progress (APP).

“I said, I will stay to work in the Executive until the president considers it. And if this took me until July 28, I told them 2, 3, 4 times that I was not going to run. This has been interrupted, and since politics is dynamic and changes, the scenarios have changed, so I am reevaluating my position because I have been forced to resign after the president has been vacated,” said Sandoval.

José Jerí thanks former ministers, but does not swear in new cabinet

On Sunday, October 12, the head of state thanked the former ministers led by Eduardo Arana for the services provided during the Government of Dina Boluarte and his first hours in charge of the country. However, he did not announce the day on which the replacements of the new members of the ministerial cabinet will be sworn in, a situation that aggravates the political crisis and the uncertainty of citizens in the midst of the wave of crime.

“I appreciate the services provided to the nation by the members of the Council of Ministers led until today by Eduardo Arana. Together with the new Premier, we will finalize the formation of the broad-based Cabinet and announced national reconciliation,” he published on his X account.
