Pavel Isa Contreras presented her resignation formally as head of the Ministry of EconomyPlanning and Development (MEPyD), which was accepted by the president of the Republic, Luis Abinadereffective January 10, 2025.
The information was confirmed this Thursday by the entity’s communications department through a statement indicating that it was an ongoing process that had been discussed with Abinader.
“In a letter delivered to the president, Isa Contreras explains that the functions carried out since 2022, at the head of the governing body of public planning and investment, conclude after having successfully achieved the macrostructure of a new ministry that will unite the functions of Economy and Treasury”, indicates the document.
The economist and researcher He stated that, during his managementthe Ministry of EconomyPlanning and Development has strived to promote a long-term vision for the Dominican Republic.
According to the statement, Isa Contreras thanks the president the opportunity to promote public policies oriented to sustainable and resilient development, productive transformation and equity.

Pavel Ernesto Isa Contreras is Dominican, graduated in Economy for him INTEC in 1988. He also has a master’s degree in Economic Policy from the National University in Costa Rica, obtained in 1994, and is a doctor in Economy from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, since 2003.
From the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, he worked as researcher in it CIECAan economic think tank of the Dominican Republicand as research director at CRIES, a Latin American and Caribbean regional network for social and economic research. He also served as economic advisor to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of EconomyPlanning and Development of the Dominican Republic.
He was officer in charge of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and research coordinator of the Office of Human Development (ODH) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, he served as teacher researcher of the INTECattached to the Dominican Observatory of International Trade.
His academic work has focused on issues of international tradetrade policy, human development, social policy and rural development. His research has been published in various academic journals, and he has also worked as a teacher at universities in Dominican RepublicCentral America and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, United States.
